A New Plan For a Safer Dam

Many people have been thinking about the floods that happened in New Orleans, Louisiana. California officials are thinking about floods too. In the spring, heavy rains and melting snow add a lot of water to the lake behind Folsom Dam. Then the dam might break and flood the towns below the lake. A flood would be very dangerous for the people who live near the dam. They need to find a solution and a way to keep the nearby towns safe.

Senator Deborah Ortiz has an idea that might help. She wants to ask the State of California for funds to make the Folsom Dam seven feet taller. Then the dam would be able to hold back more water. This would help keep the towns safe from floods.

Senator Ortiz is also asking the state to build a new bridge across the water below the dam. Folsom Dam Road is above the dam, and a lot of traffic once used the road. Right now, the road is closed. Most of the people who used the road every day are angry. They demand that the road be opened again. A bridge would make it easier for people to get to the other side of the dam.

Senator Ortiz hopes that the state will pay for these projects. She thinks they will protect Sacramento and make the drivers happier.

My Impression Of Australia

Australia is a large country in the world. It has great fields and wide ocean,It's one of the well-known oceanian nations. Here have five largest cities with a population of more than one million are Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth.

Certainly, Australia is a wonderful place with unpolluted sky and beaches. The sky is always blue and the clouds are white, and many of tall trees and green fields. As the climate there is warm and comfortable, so the environment that suits everybody. people enjoy spending their vacation here.

The other views, here are interesting animals, like kangaroos, koalas, duckbills, emus. I used to see them with the local free guide. People in Australia are very friendly, and are very willing to help anybody in need.

Financially, Australia is a developed country, it's quick better in terms of its social security and famous for its wool production and seashore tours. What is more, trade has always been the backbone of its economy. People can enjoy the comfortable life that the advanced trade brings to them.

Discuss: Charging airline customers based on their weight is very unfair.

I don't agree with it. In my opinion, charging airline customers based on their weight is reasonable, especially as the rising weight of population adds to fuel costs. Charging passengers according to weight would helped carriers recover the cost of the extra fuel required to carry heavier travelers.

In other words, people generally are becoming much more weight conscious. The policy has helped to promote health awareness and improve public health. Even though in the beginning it's unfair for fat people ,but it will be of great benefit to lose weight ones .

Journal

Last week we were told to write down lyrics, and then I was trying to sing that song. I like singing but not often do sing English
songs. Actually,my spoken English is not very good. Oh by the way, in my country has such a saying says: No pains,no gains. So I
think if I practice more and more, I will speak it well.

I think the English class teaching by English teacher has much difference with by Chinese teacher. The Chinese teachers attach to
the grammar but the English teachers attach to speaking. So I like to learn here. I will learn English language faster than before.

If you could, would you vote for or against SB 7? Why?

I will vote for SB7. I think it's better to ban smoking in cars. Now many countries have legislation to ban smoking in public places.
So Smokers'smoking place, has been compromised once again, choosing to smoke in cars become another option when there is a ban on smoking in public places . When smoking in the car, it will leave unpleasant smoke taste. It can harm our health ,and then canses disease .

My Day

Yesterday was Saturday ,it was sunny all day . I got up late in the morning . Then I washed my teeth and face . There were two sandwiches ,a cup of milk at breakfast , those were full for me ! The later I helped my uncle do housework . After that , I had a rest , watched Australian News Channel which I was concerned about . I began to do my homework when the program was finished .

I was glad to have completed all the tasks of the day . I realised I should find some things to do , so I turned on the computer to watch a movie named The Bible . What a nice movie it is !

I had also done other things , but I thought those were some minor things , so I didn't write them down . Thank you for your reading !

The Use Of Mobile Phones

Today, more and more people have mobile phones. It's so convenient to our life,we can call others or send short messages.
For example, we could contact friends by mobile phones when we haven't seen them for long time . Mobile phones always help us, such
as listening to music, surfing the internet, looking for new words, playing games and so on. They are all the time at our
side.

Actually, we also should try our best to use mobile phones in right ways. In my opinion, it's bad for us to use phones all
the time, because it can harm our health.
